Your Orthodontic Journey
1. Consultation
All Orthodontic patients require a consultation with our Specialist Orthodontist before they can begin treatment. During your initial assessment, the Orthodontist will take a comprehensive look at a number of things.
– Tooth alignment
– Crowding
– Spacing
– Skeletal pattern
– Your main concerns
– Expected results
At this stage, it is important for us to get to know new patients and establish your concerns and requirements, and work out which orthodontic treatment will be best for you.
2. Records & Investigation
After your initial Consultation you will then be booked in with an Orthodontic Therapist who will carry out the following;
– Clinical photographs
– OPG radiograph
– Digital Scan for study models
The OPG Radiograph for new patients is to check the health of all of your teeth, roots and jaws to ensure you are able to embark on a course of orthodontics. If you have had one of these specialist radiographs within a year of your consultation please bring it with you to avoid retaking it.
From the information gained during this appointment you will then receive;
– A comprehensive treatment plan with objectives
– Estimated treatment time
– Total fee structure and payment contracts
– Consent form and treatment contract
For Invisalign patients, this is when you will have your iTero Scan. The iTero Scan captures 100’s of images per second to generate a digital image of your teeth and the Outcome Simulator instantly predicts the results you could achieve.
3. Treatment
Now for the good bit. Once you have agreed to your treatment plan and consented to treatment we will book you in to have your braces fitted!
If you are having Invisalign, your appointment journey will be slightly different;
CLINCHECK
A ClinCheck is essentially a 3D Animated treatment plan. It uses the images taken during your iTero scan to create a virtual simulation of your proposed treatment results. It highlights the movement of your teeth during each aligner stage and shows you where any brackets (if needed) will be fitted.
We invite you back to discuss your ClinCheck, to make sure you’re happy with the prediction and to make any changes if you’re not. We can always send it to you via email and have a telephone call instead, to save you a trip in. But of course, we’d love to see you!
ALIGNER FIT
When the aligners are ready, you will wear a different one every two weeks until the carefully controlled force shifts your teeth to a better position. You may feel minor discomfort when a new aligner is fitted but this is usually just a feeling of pressure and a good indicator that the treatment is working.
Treatment times will vary depending on your individual issue, but most cases are completed in 6-12 months. As the aligners only work while you are actually wearing them, we recommend they are kept in place for a minimum of 22 hours per day.
